Rough ideas for an Internship in China

While applying for the many internships as of late, I found an interesting one in China(my wife will kill me). The Company asked me to come up with some design Ideas. The following rough sketches are possible inflatable pool toys that I think would be unique and interesting to kids.

The little boat is a ride along pool float for either a baby or a child within the age demographic outlined. The theme of the float is inspired by the movie Cars without actually using any of their characters. His name is Kris and he is inspired by a 1950′s Chris Craft boat. Behind the windscreen is where the child would sit. It could be adapted as a baby boat by adding a canopy top in order to keep those harmful rays out. After intensive online research, I came to the conclusion that boat based inflatable pool toys are not offered and the only Cars themed pool ride along was of the main character.

The second test design is a kids inflatable punching bag, also called a bop bag. The idea came from looking at all the punching bags available on the market. Most of them have rather friendly looking characters and no real foes. I thought this could be rectified with a punching bag in the form of a ninja. Ninjas are still popular, especially with the release of the LEGO Ninjago line, and they could either be considered friend or foe. The punching bag would be water weighted for extra striking power and have outstretched 3D arms in which to attack with.

Commision for drawing

I was just commissioned for a drawing today. It is actually pretty interesting and I am excited about it. I will work on it in my free-time and post my progress when I get a chance. The pay is not so bad either!

Getting closer

I recently moved from the San Francisco bay area to the high desert to be closer to my wife’s family and to be closer to the industry, of Product Design, I can now finally enter.

COTM intro

Since I am not currently working in my field of study, I figured I would add some weekly content based on where I work now. In order to pay the bills I work as a valet for a four star hotel in the bay area. Its a fun job and it does have its perks, especially if you enjoy cars as much as I do.

First impressions do matter when it comes to design, and so therefore I will give you my two cents on the vehicles I have driven over the course of my time at the hotel. Most of these posts will be the highlights and I will not show you every car, because most of them tend to fade into the background (especially rental cars from Chrysler).

The first car is a Maserati Quattroporte, an italian luxury sports sedan. Sumptuous interior with a nice and throaty sound to the engine. Reverse was located on the center console, which took me a few seconds to find. And as with most high end cars these days, it was a steering mounted paddle shift tranny.
